Colour, Energy, and Finally...the Lecture

When‌ ‌I‌ ‌started‌ ‌my‌ ‌YouTube‌ ‌Channel,‌ ‌the‌ ‌subject‌ ‌that‌ ‌I‌ ‌wanted‌ ‌to‌ ‌talk‌ ‌about‌ ‌the most‌ ‌was‌ ‌colour .‌ ‌Not‌ ‌just‌ ‌what‌ ‌colours‌ ‌are,‌ but ‌more‌ ‌importantly‌ ‌how‌ ‌to‌ ‌use‌ ‌them‌ ‌in‌ ‌your‌ ‌quilting.‌ ‌So when the Festival Of Quilts contacted me about a lecture for this year's Masterclass series, Colour was the obvious choice.

Colour‌ ‌in‌ ‌quilting‌ ‌is‌ ‌not‌ ‌like‌ ‌colour‌ ‌in‌ ‌painting,‌ ‌knitting‌ ‌or‌ ‌scrapbooking.‌ ‌In‌ ‌a painting‌, ‌you‌ can‌ ‌mix‌ ‌whatever‌ ‌colour‌ ‌you‌ ‌want.‌ ‌In‌ ‌knitting,‌ ‌not‌ ‌only‌ ‌do‌ ‌you‌ ‌have‌ ‌the‌ ‌colour‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌wool,‌ you‌ ‌have‌ ‌the‌ ‌wonderful‌ ‌texture‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌yarns‌ ‌to‌ ‌help‌ ‌add‌ ‌dimension‌ ‌to‌ ‌your‌ ‌work.‌ ‌In‌ scrapbooking‌ ‌not‌ ‌only‌ ‌do‌ ‌you‌ ‌have‌ ‌paper,‌ ‌but you also‌ ‌have‌ ‌inks,‌ ‌stickers‌ ‌and‌ ‌foils‌ ‌to‌ ‌play‌ ‌with.‌ ‌ ‌

In‌ ‌quilting,‌ ‌we‌ ‌have‌ ‌fabric‌ ‌and‌ ‌thread.‌ ‌ ‌

I‌ ‌have‌ ‌watched‌ ‌many‌ ‌videos‌ ‌on‌ ‌using‌ ‌colour‌ ‌but‌ ‌they‌ ‌all‌ ‌overlook ‌our‌ ‌personal‌ ‌connection‌ ‌to‌ ‌colour.‌ ‌I‌ ‌call‌ ‌it ‌our‌ ‌PERSONAL‌ ‌COLOUR‌ ‌ZONE.‌ ‌Through‌ ‌a‌ ‌combination‌ ‌of‌ ‌DNA‌ ‌and‌ ‌experience,‌ ‌we‌ ‌have‌ ‌each‌ ‌developed‌ ‌neuro-pathways‌ ‌connected‌ ‌to‌ ‌colours,‌ ‌and‌ ‌we‌ ‌each‌ ‌have‌ ‌a‌ ‌different‌ ‌internal‌ ‌library‌ ‌of‌ ‌swatches‌ ‌of‌ ‌those‌ ‌that‌ ‌support‌ ‌our‌ ‌personal‌ ‌energy.‌ ‌

Colour is a broad subject and I know that many people can be overwhelmed by all the information. Honestly, I‌ ‌have‌ ‌been‌ ‌working‌ ‌on‌ ‌and‌ ‌revising‌ ‌this‌ ‌lecture‌ ‌for‌ ‌several‌ ‌years.‌ Seeing what worked and what didn’t. ‌And‌ ‌finally,‌ ‌after‌ ‌months‌ ‌of‌ ‌work,‌ ‌bringing‌ ‌all‌ ‌my‌ animation ‌skills‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌table,‌ ‌testing the presentation with my team over and over again, I had‌ ‌a‌ ‌lecture‌ ‌I‌ ‌was‌ proud‌ ‌of.‌ ‌

When it came time to hit that play button on the ZOOM meeting on Aug 11th, I knew I had something that can help any quilter build a solid foundation in colour.

And‌ ‌by‌ ‌popular‌ ‌demand,‌ ‌I‌ ‌will‌ ‌be‌ ‌expanding‌ ‌this‌ ‌into‌ ‌a‌ ‌1-day‌ ‌online‌ ‌workshop‌ ‌coming‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌Autumn.‌ More information about the workshop will become available later this year. ‌I‌ ‌will‌ ‌also‌ ‌be‌ ‌teaching‌ ‌this‌ ‌class‌ ‌on‌ ‌my‌ ‌Alaskan‌ ‌Cruise‌ ‌next‌ ‌year. ‌ ‌

I‌ ‌can’t‌ ‌wait‌ ‌to‌ ‌play‌ ‌with‌ ‌colour‌ ‌with‌ ‌you.‌ ‌Until‌ ‌then‌ ‌you‌ ‌can‌ ‌always‌ ‌watch ‌my‌ ‌YouTube‌ ‌playlist‌ ‌and‌ ‌download‌ ‌my‌ ‌colour‌ ‌wedges‌ ‌from‌ ‌my‌ ‌website.‌ ‌

Speaking‌ ‌of‌ ‌colour,‌ ‌my‌ ‌guest‌ ‌last‌ ‌week‌ ‌on‌ ‌Karen’s‌ ‌Quilt‌ ‌Circle‌ ‌was‌ ‌Cathy‌ ‌Hay‌ ‌who‌ ‌is‌ ‌recreating‌ ‌the‌ ‌1902‌ ‌House of Worth dress‌ ‌called‌ ‌the‌ ‌Peacock‌ ‌Dress.‌ ‌The‌ ‌colours‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌beading‌ ‌are‌ ‌absolutely‌ ‌stunning.‌ ‌Master‌ ‌craftsmen‌ ‌from‌ ‌the‌ ‌Kishan Chand ‌workshop‌ ‌in‌ ‌Delhi,‌ ‌must‌ ‌have‌ ‌worked‌ ‌hours‌ ‌and‌ ‌hours‌ ‌to‌ ‌create‌ ‌the‌ ‌yardage‌ ‌needed‌ ‌to‌ ‌make‌ ‌this‌ ‌ball‌ ‌gown.‌ ‌
