Thread may be the supporting actor in quilting—fabric gets all the attention and most of the budget—but thread is what literally holds everything together.
And yet… chances are you have at least one spool in your space that is older than you are.'

Now today this day may feel like a scavenger hunt as those spools end up everywhere.
Thread can be collected from:
Your sewing machine area
Drawers and cabinets
Hand-sewing kits and travel kits
Project bags
Studio or longarm area
Not to mention the rest of your house and the car
And yes—this includes bobbins too.
Seeing it all together tells a very honest story. Since thread has a function, the question we want to ask today is:
Do I USE This Thread HERE?
Ask yourself: What type of sewing is it for? Where do I use this thread?
Examples:
Regular or Piecing thread near your sewing machine
King spools with your longarm
Serger thread near the serger
Hand-sewing or fine threads with slow-stitch kits
Embroidery thread with embroidery supplies
Thread should live where it’s used.
