Sometimes life gets so busy I not only lose track of time, I lose track of weeks and this year months. I looked at the calendar this morning and saw it was October!!! So what happened to September?
The day after Labour Day (September 2nd) I flew to Amsterdam for a 10 day textile tour in Netherlands and Belgium. My husband opted to stay home this time, and I was joined by Laura Heneberry from PreQuilt.com! Not only did we have a private coach driving my new friends and I from one side of the country to the other, we met with local artists and museum docents expanding our knowledge and appreciation for textiles. We talked and laughed all the way from Amsterdam to Zupthen, Ee, Tilsburg, Bruges and back to Amsterdam. We learned how to block stamp on fabric, make lace and how linen is made from plant to manufacturer and so much more. And I tell you all about it in this video here.
There were two special guests that joined us! Irene from Sugaridoo and An Kessene from MadamSew. Both of them are past guests on my podcast. They added a special local touch to the tours, sharing regional knowledge where needed. You can listen to our interviews here
By popular demand I designed an English Paper Piecing (EPP) block that we worked on during our drives, meals and quiet times. Our tour agent Anne Winter was not a quilter when we started the tour but she dived into this project and by the end of the trip she was finished her first block and was thinking about starting a second. I used the flight home to sew my last piece on. I think mine will likely become a pillow or a mug rug.

This group of quilters were originally connected through me. But by the last day, we all had wonderful members with each other. I'm happy to say that we are already discussing the next textile tour!
